GUIDANCE

The following are services provided:

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Whole class instruction
  • Standardized testing coordination of the Terra Nova and the PSAT for 8th graders
  • Participation in end-of-the-year review meetings for 8th grade students and their parents to assist in high school course placement
 
Counseling needs that may be addressed:
  • Grief/loss and divorce counseling

  • Social skills and independence training

  • Self-esteem improvement

  • Study and organizational skills

  • Test taking anxiety

  • Sibling rivalry/anger management strategies

  • Setting goals for the future

  • Drug/safety awareness during Red Ribbon Week

  • Individual emotional support

 

Whole class instruction provided by the guidance counselor includes, but is not limited to:

  • Middle School 101 class in the Fall for 6th graders as they enter middle school

  • High School 101 class in the Spring for 8th graders as they prepare to graduate

  • Lessons on recognizing individual strengths and talents, giving thanks and respect to self and others, solving friendship issues, standing up to bullying, saying kind words and compliments, and appreciating differences
