Grading Criteria for Library Media Center Classes
Kindergarten through Second Grade
Students are graded on four factors:
  1. A student must come to Library with his/her ID badge/library card.
  2. A student must come to Library with his/her library book.
  3. A student must abide by Library rules and demonstrate appropriate library behavior.
  4. A student must master the library objectives outlined by the Diocese of St. Augustine syllabus.
Grades for Library are:      S = Successful progress
N = Needs more time to accomplish this skill
                                         U = Unsuccessful progress

Additionally your child may receive a plus mark or a check mark on his/her report card for conduct and participation. A plus indicates an area of strength and a check indicates an area of weakness.

Third through Fifth Grade
Students are graded on four factors:
  1. Preparedness - student comes to Library class with his/her Library/ID badge and book each week. Being unprepared three or more times in a quarter results in an automatic N.
  2. Graded work - such as quizzes, worksheets, creative work, and other assessments. Assignments are planned to coincide with the objectives of the syllabus of the Diocese of St. Augustine.
  3. Behavior - student demonstrates appropriate library behavior and completes tasks in a timely manner.
  4. Checkouts - Students are expected to check out books on a weekly basis. Students who do not check out, will be graded accordingly.
Middle School - Grades 6 through 8
Students are graded on five factors:
  1. Graded work - such as quizzes, worksheets, creative work, and research projects.
  2. Appropriate use of electronic sources - such as research databases, library catalog, and internet.
  3. Behavior - student demonstrates appropriate library behavior and completes tasks in a timely manner.
  4. Checkouts - students are expected to check out books on a bi-weekly basis. Students who do not check out, will be graded accordingly.
  5. Preparedness - student arrives at class with library card, book, and any other assigned work.
***Note: It is very important for students to give their best effort in every Enrichment Class and to promptly make up any missed work. Enrichment classes meet significantly fewer times than core classes during the grading period (generally 8 times). Enrichment classes, with the exception of Spanish, do not assign homework. Therefore, the ONLY grading opportunities for students in Enrichment classes are during class time. If a student doesn't give his/her best effort in every class, or if a student misses a graded assignment, that may be sufficient to bring his/her grade down to a failing grade.
